On invitation by the ‘AGASEKE’ Women’s association in Reading, the High Commissioner and High Commission staff attended the cultural Christmas celebration event which took place over the weekend in Reading.
Guests enjoyed singing Christmas Carols together, beautifully prepared home-cooked food, a special heart-warming number by the children of the Reading Rwandese community, as well as dancing and a chance to mingle amongst friends.
The event was also a joint celebration for the RPF (Rwandan Patriotic Front) 30year anniversary, which falls this week, and was attended by representatives of the RPF in the UK.
Thanking the organisers, Her Excellency Yamina commended the community in Reading for exemplifying what a group of people who have been displaced can achieve when they come together, support each other and hold each other accountable, all which are in line with the principles of the RPF. The High Commissioner called on all the attendees to “take it from here and elevate our efforts and achievements in the UK and beyond”.
AGASEKE will officially launch in 2018 as an organisation and plans on growing its activities within Reading and the UK.
